La FAO publie un rapport mettant à l’honneur la contribution des sols des régions montagneuses

A l’occasion de l’année internationale des sols, la FAO a publié un rapport sur les sols des régions montagneuses et leurs contributions pour la sécurité alimentaire et les écosystèmes. Les sols de montagnes sont des ressources fragiles et difficiles à régénérer. Ils sont sujets à des phénomènes naturels tels que la désertification et les glissements de terrain. Les mauvaises pratiques telles que la déforestation, des pratiques agricoles et des méthodes d’extraction de ressources non durables fragilisent les sols. Les peuples des montagnes, conscients de la valeur de leurs sols ont su développer des connaissances et des méthodes de gestion durables pour les protéger.

La FAO a compilé plusieurs études de cas fournies par les membres et partenaires du Mountain Partnership à travers le monde pour présenter une série de leçons apprises et des recommandations pour mieux préserver cette précieuse ressource. Plusieurs chapitres sont consacrés aux montagnes européennes comme celui sur les sols des pâturages des montagnes et leur richesse en espèces  végétales dans les Alpes autrichiennes.

Today, Euromontana had the pleasure to take part in the journalist training course “Transizione ecologica nelle aree montane: biodiversità, cambiamento climatico e sviluppo sostenibile”, organised by Università della Montagna with the Ordine dei Giornalisti della Lombardia (the Lombardy Association of Journalists 📰)The course, bringing together 65+ participants, focused on how to better understand and report on ecological transition in mountain areas, from biodiversity and climate change to sustainable development ⛰️👉This matters because the way mountain areas are reported shapes the way they are understood and, ultimately, the way they are governed!We were pleased to join our member UNIMONT in this exchange. Prof. Anna Giorgi highlighted the need to change the way mountain areas are perceived, beyond fragility and marginality. Stefano Sala then showed how issues such as depopulation, winter tourism, climate change and public policy require a more nuanced reading of mountain realities 🔍 For Euromontana, Guillaume Corradino brought a European perspective to the discussion.
