Le projet OREKA MENDIAN a démarré

Les partenaires du projet venant du Pays Basque espagnol et du Sud-Ouest de la France se sont réunis le 15 Septembre à Pagoeta en Espagne, pour marquer le début d’un projet de 6 ans (septembre 2016-novembre 2021) portant sur certains des défis les plus importants auxquels sont confrontées les prairies. Le projet Oreka Mendian a reçu 2,3 M € du programme LIFE de l’Union européenne.

L’objectif du projet Oreka Mendian est de développer une stratégie de conservation des habitats naturels utilisés par les exploitations de bétail extensives du Pays Basque, en commençant par la préservation de l’utilisation traditionnelle des prairies qui, dans un contexte basque, permettra de rétablir un état de conservation favorable pour les 12 types d’habitats et 2 espèces inscrites dans la Directive Habitats.

Un membre d’Euromontana, la fondation HAZI, est directement impliqué dans le projet en tant que coordinateur, en plus d’Euromontana-même. Euromontana est responsable de l’action E4, portant sur la diffusion et l’échange d’informations au niveau européen.

Today, Euromontana had the pleasure to take part in the journalist training course “Transizione ecologica nelle aree montane: biodiversità, cambiamento climatico e sviluppo sostenibile”, organised by Università della Montagna with the Ordine dei Giornalisti della Lombardia (the Lombardy Association of Journalists 📰)The course, bringing together 65+ participants, focused on how to better understand and report on ecological transition in mountain areas, from biodiversity and climate change to sustainable development ⛰️👉This matters because the way mountain areas are reported shapes the way they are understood and, ultimately, the way they are governed!We were pleased to join our member UNIMONT in this exchange. Prof. Anna Giorgi highlighted the need to change the way mountain areas are perceived, beyond fragility and marginality. Stefano Sala then showed how issues such as depopulation, winter tourism, climate change and public policy require a more nuanced reading of mountain realities 🔍 For Euromontana, Guillaume Corradino brought a European perspective to the discussion.
