Ministry for Infrastructure and Agriculture of Brandenburg – Transport Department, Germany

Brandenburg is a part of the German Capitel region Berlin Brandenburg. This region is characterized by a diverse structure: the city of Berlin with a high density of population, the direct surroundings with still a high density and the rural areas around. In the region live about 6 Million people, 2,5 million of them in Brandenburg. This structure offers a lot of challenges and chances. We have to face them.

The Transport Department of the Ministry is responsible for the transport policy in the country Brandenburg, the general planning in case of transport and transport infrastructure and the planning, organisation and financing of the public transport in the country. The department cooperates with the federal ministry and the others German countries and, of course, with the towns and districs within the country.

The ministry has to handle the diverse structure of the country, to give different answers to the challenges the country is facing, to give development chances to all parts of the country. One of the main tasks for the ministry is therefore to ensure mobility in the regions, the rural areas.

There are several ways the regions can act. To show what are the needs and what are the options, to help the regions to develop their own, their special approach to solving the problems is an important task for the ministry. It has to develop answers for the whole country, has to give examples different types of regions. Brandenburg has some good ideas in this field – mobility for the youth or other target groups, integrated mobility management i. a. using regional potentials or new technologies. We can offer our experience in these fields. But we are also interested in the ideas of other countries and regions. We need them to make Brandenburg stronger in solving the problems in the field of mobility, stronger in using the development chances for the rural regions.
