The 2021 European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA) is co-organised by the European Commission, JPI Climate and three Horizon 2020 projects (SINCERE, CASCADES and RECEIPT). It is a virtual event comprising a high-level conference (22 June) and a webinar series on pressing climate change adaptation challenges from 25 May to 10 June.

ECCA 2021 comes after the first global Climate Adaptation Summit in January 2021, and before the COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021. It will turn the spotlight on the pressing need to accelerate the transfer of knowledge from R&I to policies and practices, including societal transformation and behavioural change, in order to increase resilience in Europe and beyond, in the context of rising climate risks.

Participants will include researchers and adaptation experts, policy-makers, local authorities, practitioners in climate risks management, the private sector with a focus on businesses already engaged with and taking action on climate risk, investors, NGOs, citizens organisations, youth and education organisations, community groups engaged in adaptation, communicators and all interested individuals.

Webinar series on climate adaptation (from 25 May to 10 June)

Previous to the high-level conference, a series of 10 webinars on adaptation to climate change is organised. The webinars will address different topics like financing climate adaptation, developing nature-based solutions, building resilient post-COVID societies. Wolfgang Pfefferkorn, from CIPRA International, will be guest speaker at the webinar on empowering local communities on 9 June.

High-level conference (22 June)

The high-level conference will take place from 09:00 to 16:00. It will give the floor to European and regional policy-makers, will showcase inspiring examples and will wrap up the key messages from each webinar.
