Meeting programme

Within the events scheduled for the year of the Italian Presidency of EUSALP, Regione autonoma Valle d’Aosta organizes an event to bring together politicians, researchers, project managers, associations and all those people who are involved on the thematic of Smart Villages.

The conference will be held in the prestigious locations of the Sky Way Monte Bianco and Courmayeur.

Starting from the ESPON study Alps 2050, particular attention will be paid to the development of the Smart Village concept as a possible way to find a solution to the depopulation of the Alpine villages. During the event will be presented best practices, projects and ideas related to the emerging theme of Smart Villages as an innovative perspective to provide better services and improve the quality of life in Alpine villages.

Action Group 5 main focus are the development of the connectivity and the provision of services of general interest (SGI) in the Alps. Those are a possible starting point for the Smart Village approach, and during the event to further develop the theme we will work with other AGs, in particular AG3 (dual education), AG4 (mobility) and AG9 (energy efficiency).

Join them on 23-24th May 2019 in Courmayeur to concretize a wider trend-setting framework that will foster and support the Smart Village concept.

Today, Euromontana had the pleasure to take part in the journalist training course “Transizione ecologica nelle aree montane: biodiversità, cambiamento climatico e sviluppo sostenibile”, organised by Università della Montagna with the Ordine dei Giornalisti della Lombardia (the Lombardy Association of Journalists 📰)The course, bringing together 65+ participants, focused on how to better understand and report on ecological transition in mountain areas, from biodiversity and climate change to sustainable development ⛰️👉This matters because the way mountain areas are reported shapes the way they are understood and, ultimately, the way they are governed! We were pleased to join our member UNIMONT in this exchange. Prof. Anna Giorgi highlighted the need to change the way mountain areas are perceived, beyond fragility and marginality. Stefano Sala then showed how issues such as depopulation, winter tourism, climate change and public policy require a more nuanced reading of mountain realities 🔍 For Euromontana, Guillaume Corradino brought a European perspective to the discussion. He stressed that :1️⃣ mountains are not Europe’s margins, but diverse and complex living territories, and 2️⃣ stronger place-based policies and European cooperation are needed to move from recognition to implementation. Thanks again for the organization, the opportunity, and to all the participants 👏 ...
