Mountain walk in Slovenia: discover how Cohesion Policy supports Marko

In Slovenia, disabled people can benefit from numerous opportunities thanks to the European Cohesion Policy. Marko is an imaginary character created by Montana174 project, whose intention is to showcase real projects financed by the 2014-2020 Cohesion Policy for disabled people in mountain areas.

Discover with him from what initiatives local citizens can benefit in his mountain area:

1. Free transport for disabled people

In Ravne na Koroškem, the local Municipality decided to provide free access to public transport for citizens with mobility disabilities and older adults. The aim is to prevent the social isolation and loneliness of these categories of citizens particularly in small, remote places where, due to distance, poor transport links, they are almost unable to leave their homes and are also unable to actively integrate into social life. With free transport, the local Municipality hopes to facilitate their movements, such as for attending cultural events, visiting a doctor, or going to the pharmacy.

2. ClutchX: enabling disabled people to drive

A car has been developed with an automatic clutch that can be managed through manual transmission. The “ClutchX” innovation primarily allows disable people to drive, such as people with leg disabilities. Cars using these technologies are already for sales.

3. MUTUNK project: creative skills for vulnerable groups

The My Creativity, Your Creativity, Our Culture (“Moja ustvarjalnost, tvoja ustvarjalnost, naša kultura”-MUTUNK) project enables vulnerable groups to express their artistic potential, integrate into society, and find job opportunities in the artistic and cultural sectors.

This project particularly addresses people with disabilities and migrants. Production of creative products through workshops, intervention in the public space, trainings and the preparation of a street festival are the means to allow vulnerable groups to acquire these new skills and be socially included.
