The digitalisation of rural areas is a priority for the Basque Government. The Basque Country has new generation broadband infrastructures in practically the entire territory, so as to ensure that the high level of connectivity favours town and country planning and cohesion. This commitment was acknowledged by the European Commission in the framework of the European Broadband Awards 2019.
New technologies are part of the solution to the challenges faced by rural areas and undoubtedly contribute to generating quality employment, added value and economic activity. However, the aim is to continue providing support and facilitating opportunities to promote rural development.
In this sense, the HAZI Foundation invites you to participate in “Technology and innovation as allies for a smart rural environment“. This webinar is aimed at all the actors involved in this challenge: representatives at the different levels of government in the Basque Country (local, county and regional) dedicated to digitalisation and the rural environment; rural development associations; as well as other entities linked to innovation and entrepreneurship.
The event will provide participants with useful information on the European Commission’s Long-Term Vision for Rural Areas and with some inspiring experiences from Europe. Marie Clotteau, Director of Euromontana, will for instance share some initiatives showing how digitalisation can improve mobility in mountain areas.
