Euromontana invites you to its webinar “Smart mountains: how can biosphere reserves contribute to the Green Deal?”, taking place on January 14, 2021, from 14:00 to 15h45. This webinar, co-organised  by Euromontana, the Perth College – University of the Highlands and Islands and UNESCO’s Man and the biosphere programme, will explore how mountain’s natural areas can contribute to sustainable development, to the Farm to Fork Strategy and to biodiversity conservation.

Context

Euromontana will organise its XII European Mountain Convention on “Smart mountains: how to make our territories attractive and future-oriented?” in the Natural Park & UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Sila, Italy in September 2021. This 3-Day event will aim at defining a sustainable strategy for the development of smart mountains towards 2050.

In view of this event, Euromontana is organising a series of webinars to feed reflection, showcase good initiatives, and contribute to foresight analysis for our collective future. The second webinar will address the key role played by the 254 biosphere reserves in Europe, including 121 in mountain areas, in promoting sustainable development. How do they encourage sustainable economic development while preserving biodiversity?  How do they encourage sustainable food and agriculture?

Presentations and documents

During the webinar, representatives from the European Commission, biosphere reserves and the UNESCO, among others, explored the possible contribution of mountains’ biosphere reserves to the Green Deal’s objectives. Please refer to:
