In Croatia, Montana174 explains the link between rural innovation and the Cohesion Policy

On 24th February 2022, as part of the P-IRIS II workshop, the Local Development Agency Pins presented Montana174 project to local audience. The event was held in the coworking space of Delnice, Croatia, and it focused on the impacts and opportunties that the Cohesion Policy offers, especially with respect to innovation.

 

What is the connection between Cohesion Policy and rural innovation? 

The P-IRIS II is an interregional cooperation project that aims to strenghten the rural innovation systems by improving regional policies. Funded by Interreg Europe, this project involves the  Sogn og Fjordane region (Norway), the Local Development Agency Pins (Croatia), Society for the Development of the Province of Burgos (Spain), Development agency Srce Slovenije (Slovenia) and Poliedra Milano (Italy).

As stated by the Montana174’s project, digital and social innovation in rural and mountanous areas can be fostered thanks to the funds of the Cohesion Policy. To this, the Montana174 project has produced a collection of good practices with concrete examples related to innovation in mountains. During the P-IRIS II local workshops, the Local Development Agency Pins presented the Montana174 examples on how innovation can be supported via the Cohesion Policy.

 

What did citizens learn?

The Montana174 project collected numerous examples of projects funded in the mountains of the Gorski Kotar region. Via these examples, the participants to the workshop residents had the opportunity to learn how the Cohesion Policy has a positive impact on the development of mountain areas and the people who live and work there. The workshop was also an opportunity to present to forthcoming activities of the Montana174 project to participants, such as the factsheets with future opportunities related to the 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy (to be published in April 2022) and the local workshops (to be organised in Croatia and all Montana174 in Spring 2022).

And that's a wrap for the first Euromontana Board of Directors meeting of the year 🇮🇹 Last week, the Board members examined the development of the network and reported on ongoing activities and plans for the coming months, as well as the network's advocacy priorities! 🏔️ The day also included a tour of the Università della Montagna premises, (who are kindly hosting the meetings) and meeting with Luca Masneri, the Mayor of the Commune of Edolo. 🇮🇹 Live from Edolo were Euromontana's Board of Directors is gathering for its first meeting of the year!Yesterday, the group reached the 3,000 m to witness the impact of climate change on tourism and on the Presena glacier, explained by Consortia Pontedilegno-Tonale, and then learned about the alteration of the alpine ecosystem from Stelvio National Park and Adamello Regional Park🏔👉Fauna, flora and local communities are affected by the shorter period of snow cover, which disturbs the habitats and physiological clocks of species, as well as the availability of water, predation cycles and the cultural landscape.
