Mountain walk in the Lombardy Region (Italy): discover how Cohesion Policy supports Adelmo

In the Lombardy Region (Italy), adult workers can benefit from numerous opportunities to carry out their job while engaging in territorial development thanks to the European Cohesion Policy. Adelmo is an imaginary character created by Montana174 project, whose intention is to showcase real projects financed by the 2014-2020 Cohesion Policy for workers in mountain areas.

Discover with him from what initiatives local citizens can benefit in his mountain area:

1. Mountain hut’s renovation

The local Italian Alpine Club volunteers are renovating a local mountain hut that has been closed for many years in “S. M. Staffora” e “Brallo di Pregola”. These facilities will be offered free of charge to cyclists, pilgrims, artists and travellers who will be able to experience the territory not only as a place of passage, but also as a moment of encounter with its community.

2. Smart Oltrepò : co-working space in mountains

The mountain community Oltrepò Lombardo, in collaboration with the Cooperativa Sos – Beeasy – Consulting Call Center, launched the Smart Oltrepò co-working space. The aim is to attract workers and families to spend time in the mountains of the Alto Oltrepò Pavese for working and discovering the territory. The Smart Oltrepò provides professionals and smart workers with a multi-functional space open 7 days per week with 4 workstations, a call room, high-speed connection, HDMI displays for computers, and convention with local swimming pool.

3. Ancient Roman Furnace

The ancient roman furnace of Massinigo was restored and turned into an educational hub for schools and families and a tourist centre. Domestic and international visitors can go learn about the history of the Oltrepò Pavese region, while visiting the surrounding mountains.

4. Crescere insieme in Alto Oltrepò

The social project “Crescere insieme in Alto Oltrepò” (Growing together in Alto Oltrepò) was launched to help working parents look after their children in the Municipality of Bagnaria, as well as for families in Varzi and the entire Mountain Community. Thanks to this programme, children attend educational workshops and play with their friends before and after the school hours, while their parents are working. Moreover, transport services for kids are also foreseen. Children between 2 and 16 years old can participate to these activities.

And that's a wrap for the first Euromontana Board of Directors meeting of the year 🇮🇹 Last week, the Board members examined the development of the network and reported on ongoing activities and plans for the coming months, as well as the network's advocacy priorities! 🏔️ The day also included a tour of the Università della Montagna premises, (who are kindly hosting the meetings) and meeting with Luca Masneri, the Mayor of the Commune of Edolo. We had the pleasure to hear presentations from B.I.M. del Sarca President, who act to safeguard the rights of mountain communities by providing compensation for the hydroelectric development of the River Sarca and its tributaries, as well as from CALRE (the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies), presenting their annual priorities 💡 A lot of food for thought here, so stay tuned!👀 Curious about our governing bodies and ways of functioning? 🇮🇹 Live from Edolo were Euromontana's Board of Directors is gathering for its first meeting of the year!Yesterday, the group reached the 3,000 m to witness the impact of climate change on tourism and on the Presena glacier, explained by Consortia Pontedilegno-Tonale, and then learned about the alteration of the alpine ecosystem from Stelvio National Park and Adamello Regional Park🏔👉Fauna, flora and local communities are affected by the shorter period of snow cover, which disturbs the habitats and physiological clocks of species, as well as the availability of water, predation cycles and the cultural landscape. In the afternoon, the visits continued with the FerroMiners (Miniera Ferrominers), who are bridging the diversification of tourism activities in the valley through the revitalisation of historical iron mining sites⛏️A big thanks to our member Università della Montagna for the organisation 👏 ...
