Mountain walk the Aragon Region (Spain):  discover how Cohesion Policy supports Carlos

In the Aragon Region (Spain), environmental organisations can find benefit from numerous opportunities thanks to the European Cohesion Policy. Carlos is an imaginary character created by Montana174 project, whose intention is to showcase real projects financed by the 2014-2020 Cohesion Policy for environmental organisations in mountain areas.

Discover with his from what initiatives local citizens can benefit in his mountain area:

1. RAMSAT for rural revitalization

In the Aragon Region, the RAMAST project was set up in order to revitalize mountainous areas through sustainable tourism. This project brought together local stakeholders from various mountainous regions of Europe with the scope to identify, develop and pilot alternative projects to boost sustainable tourism in mountains.

2. RFC project acts for cultural heritage

In Europe, there is a high number of neglected fortresses, that could have an estimable value for the tourist development of certain regions, such as mountain areas. The “Recapture the Fortress Cities” project aims to revitalize heritage sites with neglected fortresses and castles. Different stakeholders were brought together in order to identify new methods for valorising fortresses and castles in connection with the natural heritage surrounding them.

3. Citizen involvement in circular economy

A group of citizens, entities and companies in the region was created to develop the circular economy plan of the Cultural Park. This action was implemented as part of the “Citizen Involvement in Circular Economy” project whose aim is to create practical solutions to boost the circular economy of territories.

Have a look at how Carlos experienced Cohesion Policy in his mountain walk (available in English and Spanish).
