Marketing of tourist farms in Slovenia

Located in the border with Italy, in the Mediterranean area of Slovenia, the area of Brkini and Kras is composed by four municipalities and two local communities that define one geographic area. The Kras area is well known as the region gave its name to the karst topography, landscape formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum.

In order to strength the tourism in both areas, a joint project was created, with the aim of increasing joint activities of the communes in the field of marketing of tourist services. The joint promotion of tourism in the farm for both areas reduces the overall costs of campaigning separately. Tourist farms received training for joint marketing initiatives, developing tourist services. The specific objectives of this project included compiling a list of basic tourist services for providers and visitors, training on marketing, increasing the number of visitors, and building up ties with tourism agencies and other partners.

The project

The project was based on providing information and training to regional stakeholders on the marketing of tourist farms through workshops and conferences. The activities included the cooperation with interested farms and tourism agencies on the specification of services, visibility of the area and development of marketing products. Further promotion involved the creation of a joint catalogue in different languages, development of websites, participation in fairs, and advertisements in the media.

Results

As a result, cooperation between tourist farms was strengthened. Thanks to the received training they were able to develop tourist offers, a catalogue and other marketing tools. The external promotion was strengthened through participation in fairs. Additionally, an incoming tourist agency was hired.

A well-developed webpage has also been created, with the information about the area, trips, data and contact of the different tourism farms and wineries. An interactive map is available where the tourist can easily see the location of the different tourist farms and wineries and the related information.
