Towards a downgrading of the wolf’s protection status?

The European Union protects a large number of species through its Habitats Directive and by being part of the Bern Convention. Following data collection and the publication of a study on wolf populations, the European Commission has proposed downgrading the status of the wolf from “strictly protected” to “protected”.

This article details the implications of this proposal and the next steps at the Council and the Bern Convention.
