On 20 October in Milan, Euromontana participated in the joint workshop of the NEREUS(1)/ESA projects “Improving Copernicus User Uptake among Local and Regional Authorities”. The workshop hosted by the Lombardy Region attracted over 200 participants most of them coming from regional environmental agencies.
“Bring space to European Regions means stimulating the demand for space applications and services; the development of enterprises in the sector and the creation of highly qualified new jobs”, said NEREUS-President Nichi Vendola in his opening speech.
For space to be a driver for innovation and growth it is fundamental that local and regional authorities realize their role as the first and most important end-users of the Sentinel data. The workshop allowed participants to exchange and compare applications ranging from water management to agriculture. The workshop also presented the economic impact of Copernicus user uptake. Euromontana was represented by Marc Zebisch from EURAC research that presented the applications for mountain regions of the Sentinel Satellites.
