The European Commission published a Communication on how to overcome hurdles and obstacles to improve cross-border cooperation, on 20th September 2017. Its main proposals were discussed during a conference organised by DG Regio on 20-21 September 2017. All the presentations of the conference are available here.
Cross-border regions cover 40% of the EU territory, they account for 30% of the population with 150 million people and they produce 30% of the EU’s GDP. Many cross-border regions are also mountain areas. These cross-border regions host almost 2 million cross-border commuters, 1,3 million of which are cross border workers representing 0.6% of all persons employed across the EU.
