For the 2021-2027 programming period, the European Commission puts at the core of its mandate a reinforced effort to accelerate the transition towards climate neutrality – envisaged by 2050 – and mainstream the investments to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Officially endorsed by the Von der Leyen’s Presidency of the European Commission, climate change (adaptation and mitigation) will be one of the main objectives of the medium and long-term strategy of the Union. Mountain territories shall not miss the financial opportunities of the European Union programmes to finance adaptation and mitigation activities in highlands.
This article (for members only) explores Europe’s political and financial commitment to climate action, then provide some details on how-climate related projects will be financed across the EU programmes, especially in the Cohesion Policy, Interreg Alpine Space Programme and Horizon Europe.
