Main European decision-makers in the field of the CAP, including Commissioner Ciolos and the president of the European Parliament AGRI Committee Mr De Castro assembled on January 9th at the invitation of South Tyrol MEP Herbert Dorfmann and Ministers in charge of agriculture of various Alpine regions to debate progress made as regards mountain farming in negotiations on the future Common agricultural policy.
The conference provided an opportunity to recall priorities of mountain farmers in the negotiation and to listen to members of Parliament and to the Commissioner on their vision of these expectations.
The Commissioner has been very positive and has really encouraged mountain people to seize opportunities offered by legislative proposals, in particular top-ups on direct payments for less favoured areas and thematic sub-programmes for mountain areas.
