Euromontana in collaboration with other European networks as ECM (European Countryside Movement), RED (the Rurality Environment and Development Association) and FREE (Future of Rural Energy in Europe) supports the establishment of a parliamentary intergroup devoted to “rural, mountain and isolated areas ” within the new European Parliament. The member of the European Parliament, Mrs Mercedes Bresso, former president of the Committee of Regions has agreed to coordinate this project and to assume the presidency and several MEPs have expressed their support to this initiative.
This intergroup aims at highlighting the capacities and initiatives of economic, social, environmental and inclusion innovation of the rural, mountains and remote territories. It intends to adequately address all aspects of the development of rural mountains and remote areas by using an integrated and transversal approach to rural issues that are currently scattered within the European Parliament between various committees (AGRI, REGI, ENVI, ITRE, EMPL.)
The intergroup also wishes to encourage the European Parliament to contribute to improving the wellbeing of citizens living in rural, mountain and remote areas, while reducing the gap and improving the interrelationship between urban and rural areas.
