Call for Papers – International Mountain Conference 2019

Article sent it by Thomas Dax, Bundesanstalt für Bergbauernfragen (BABF) / Federal Institute for Mountainous and Less-Favoured Areas

After three global mountain research conferences organised by the Centre for Mountain Studies at Perth, Scotland (2005, 2010 and 2015), the University of Innsbruck, Austria, is organising the next International Mountain Conference, 8-12 September 2019, in Innsbruck. The conference intends to stimulate intense cross-disciplinary exchange, to create and foster collaborations, to enhance common papers and to give birth to a living document on the current state of mountain research.

The Austrian Federal Institute for Less-Favoured and Mountainous Areas is contributing to this event through its expertise and will moderate three scientific sessions. Topics focus on:

  • The challenges and potentials of demographic change
  • The need to strengthen transformation strategies for mountain regions, and
  • The discussion of social inclusive development, by highlighting gender, generation and diversity as drivers for change.

The description of the topics discussed during these sessions is available here, including specific questions which should be addressed. As the conference seeks to provide space for a vivid debate on the various topics, we encourage submission of diverse papers on studies and analysis on these themes, reflecting different perspectives of researchers from all parts of the world. We hope that the inter-disciplinary approach raises your interest and will allow an enhanced exploration of relevant issues of mountain research at the conference.

Please feel free to contact the workshop moderators to indicate your interest in submitting contribution proposals.
