During the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) in October 2016, the workshop “How to aggregate small energy investments into a large regional project?” was organised by Krapina-Zagorje and Zagreb County in Croatia, the Committee of the Regions and the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE) to present European level funding opportunities for energy projects.
The energetic challenges facing Europe include increased dependency on imports, high demand, high volatility of prices, transition towards a decarbonized energy mix and increasing energy efficiency.
Properly addressed, these challenges could result in increased energy sufficiency, lead to financial savings, and promote better health and quality of life. Mountain areas have always had an interest in energy efficiency because of their climatic conditions, the availability and accessibility of renewable sources of energy and the sometimes-difficult access to the energy grid.
