From January 28 to 31, 2020, Euromontana was invited to participate in the three-day European conference “Mountain Areas of Large Mediterranean Islands: European Issues, National and Regional Policies and Local Mechanisms” organised in the Troodos mountains in Cyprus.
The event was an opportunity for Juanan Gutierrez, President of Euromontana, to present our network and to share the need to better collaborate together with all mountain people, including those of the Mediterranean mountain islands, as well as the need to adapt public policies to better address mountain specificities.
This conference was organized under the auspice of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus and the Office of the Mountain Development Commissioner and this reflects the wish of the Cyprus government to better address its mountain territories, as also illustrated by the recent adoption of a mountain national strategy in 2019. More information on this new mountain strategy will come soon.
