Euromontana signed the “International Declaration on Mountains and Climate Change”

The twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place in Paris during the period 30 November – 11 December 2015. For this occasion, the  Mountain Partnership wants to draw attention on the severe impact of climate change on mountains areas. For this purpose, the Mountain Partnership is proposing the following two actions:

  1. An International Petition on Mountain ecosystems and peoples affected by climate change to be signed by individuals, the petition will be presented to the COP21 delegates by the Italian Delegation if at least 5000 signatures will be obtained.
  1. An International Declaration on Mountains and Climate Changeto be signed by organizations and supported by governments. This initiative is led by UIAA – the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation.

For more details please check the Mountain Partnership website.

Euromontana signed the Declaration as we believe in the importance of defining ambitious targets for climate change. Therefore, we encourage our members to sign the Declaration and the Petition for citizens. Climate change is a key topic for mountain areas that will be adressed by Euromontana during its Xth European Mountain Convention that will take place in October 2016 in Bragança, Portugal. The event will try to answer the question ‘how people and territories can adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change?’ You can find more information about the event here.
