Marie Clotteau, Director of Euromontana was auditioned on 14 October 2021 by the members of the Socialist, Ecologist and Republican Group of the French Senate on the recent Communication of the European Commission on the Long-Term Vision for Rural Areas.
This political group has prepared a resolution to be discussed in November 2021 at the French Senate in order to propose a real European rural agenda, as requested for a long time by Euromontana, the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions.
During this hearing, Marie Clotteau insisted on the need to move towards quantified objectives and evaluations in order to be able to accurately monitor the implementation of the European Communication. She also insisted on the need to take into account the diversity of rural areas, as mountains have specific constraints and strengths, and to consider the needs and wishes of young people to keep our mountains attractive to them. Moreover, Euromontana’s Director encouraged the Senators to ask for more concrete measures to improve mobility, the implementation of rural-proofing as well as the development of technological, digital and social innovation to foster local development strategies that are adapted to the needs of territories.
