MOG: Study Visit at partner 10 West-Pannon on 27th November 2013 in Sopron (Hungary)

Context:
The bilateral meeting between Podkarpackie Region (PL) and Nyugat-Pannon Nonprofit Ltd. (HU) took place on 27th November 2013, in Sopron (Hungary), in the headquarters building of GySEV Railways Company.
The Polish partner intends to take over good practice from the Nyugat-Pannon: Cooperation between public & individual transport modes: intermodal system (To know more, please have a look on our Good Practice 8.8 on MOG website)

Content of the visit:
GySEV Zrt. is a railways company owned by the Hungarian and the Austrian state and is a very important actor in the field of public transport. The railway company has volume of 5 million passengers a year and deals with passenger and goods transport. GYSEV Zrt. has already realised several projects and is also active currently in realising projects.

GYSEV is dealing with the following activities:
P+R (park and ride) and B+R (bike and ride) systems, bus turning loops and new bus stops on 9 railway stations;
– building new pedestrian bridge over railway;
intermodal passenger information system with integrated timetables of trains and buses;
– intermodal station hall with integrated train and bus ticket offices and joint information desks

The programme began at 10 o’clock in the morning. Firstly, we paid a visit to the railway station of Sopron operated by GySEV Raiways Company. We visited the railway station, the integrated real-time common transport information system, the P+R and B+R facilities next to the railway station as the latest developments that happened in the last year.
As next, we went to GySEV Zrt’s container terminal where GYSEV Zrt.’s project manager, Mr. Béla Németh presented GYSEV Zrt’s developments and projects. (P+R (park and ride) and B+R (bike and ride) systems, bus turning loops and new bus stops on 9 railway stations; intermodal passenger information system with integrated timetables of trains and buses; intermodal station hall with integrated train and bus ticket offices and joint information desk).
The Polish partner was very much interested and could obtain very useful information and ideas.
As a last program point, we took part in a common lunch to the restaurant Hotel Sopron. It gave us another opportunity to exchange on the impressions of the day.
Transferability of these Good Practices:
The Polish partner intends to take over some parts of this good practice and to implement some intermodal system in their Podkarpackie region.
As the Hungary GP requires investments in several infrastructures, it will be difficult for Podkarpackie region to implement it in a short time. In particular, amoung the difficulties, they shall obtain:
– The necessary agreement between Podkarpackie region, local municipalities and the national organisation in charge of railway infrastructure
– The necessary authorisations and financial support.
Nevertheless, Podkarpackie region already started to discuss with other local bodies and authorities to see if they can reach an agreement on a preparation of a joint project focusing on regional railway transportation.
