Stakeholder consultation on Horizon 2020 strategic priorities for 2016-2017

The Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission organised on 20th June 2014 a stakeholder consultation on Horizon 2020 strategic priorities for 2016-2017.

The conference brought together around 70 organisations involved in the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural productivity and sustainability (EIP-AGRI), Euromontana being one of them.

The aim of the workshop was to have a feedback from the different stakeholders and let them work together to identify the needs for the future priorities of the societal challenge 2 “Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry” of the Horizon 2020 work programme for 2016-2017. More concretely, the workshop concentrated on the Horizon 2020 challenges that are more relevant to the Common Agricultural Policy:

  • Sustainable agriculture and forestry
  • Sustainable and competitive agri-food sector for a safe and healthy diet
  • ‘Sustainable and competitive bio-based industries and supporting the development of the European bio-economy’

Euromontana stressed the need of a territorial approach that ensures the development of rural and less advantaged areas as mountains. This approach has been reflected in the report of the event:

A majority of the groups insisted on the need for a ‘holistic’, ‘systemic’ and ‘transdisciplinary’ approach. They advocated for a long-term approach and for a territorial approach in research, including also rural innovation beyond agricultural and forestry innovation. One cloud [participants wrote on post-it, shaped in clouds, clouds to share their ideas] mentions the need for a ‘holistic and territorial approach to climate-smart production’.

You can find all the information on the event such as the report or the article of the workshop here.
