The European Commission proposal of giving 50% of the farmers’ direct payments of 2013 in advance has been approved by the Member States. This percentage may be increased to up to 80% for specific beef and veal payments.
This decision has been made to help farmers to face the financial difficulties caused by the unfavourable weather conditions earlier in the year.
These advance payments can be granted as of 16 October 2013, rather than 1 December, on condition that Member States have verified the applications.
