XII European Mountain Convention on “Smart Mountains” postponed to 2021

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the uncertainties for the months ahead, Euromontana and CIA – Agricoltori italiani decided to the postpone the 2020 edition of the European Mountain Convention to September 2021.

European Mountain Conventions are major events for mountain stakeholders in Europe. Euromontana organises this event every two years together with one of its local member organisation, in a different European mountainous region each time. High-level speakers and key stakeholders are invited to participate, and the Conventions attracts up to 400 professionals and stakeholders from various sectors all over Europe, such as representatives from the European Commission, national ministries, local businesses, universities, and development agencies.

The twelfth edition was supposed to take place in Sila National Natural Park, a biosphere reserve in south Italy, on 29 & 30 September and 1 October 2020 to define a sustainable strategy for the development of smart mountains towards 2050.

While the last months demonstrated how mountain communities can be supportive, the recent events will certainly feed our thoughts in the future. The XII European Mountain Convention in 2021 will more than ever be the time to reflect on the economic, social or environmental challenges faced by European mountains and provide innovative solutions to these but also to celebrate the 25th birthday of Euromontana.
