2019 LIFE programme – new calls for proposals!

New calls for proposals under the EU LIFE programme are opened since April 4, 2019. They offer funding for projects under sub-programmes for environment and climate action. These sub-programmes cover a wide range of topics such as nature and biodiversity, resource efficiency, climate change adaptation and mitigation. They refer to traditional smaller projects and larger integrated projects which allow beneficiaries to receive and use funding from many sources, including the EU and/or national budgets and the private sector.

Who can apply ?
LIFE is a programme offering a lot of flexibility to its beneficiaries. You can decide if you want to run a project on your own, or if you prefer to join forces with partners from your own or another country. Entities able to apply are:

  • A public body operating under a national government’s authority, (e.g. local authority, national administration etc.),
  • A private commercial organisation,
  • A private non-commercial organisation (NGOs etc.)

Please also note that, until the United Kingdom leaves the EU, EU law continues to apply to and within the UK, when it comes to rights and obligations. This includes the eligibility of UK legal entities to participate fully and receive funding under the LIFE programme. Please be aware, however, that the eligibility criteria must be complied with for the entire duration of the grant.

How to apply?
Application processes differ depending on the type of project you are willing to submit. To learn more about the application details, please visit the LIFE programme website.
When building your project proposal, always keep in mind the following elements:

  • showing the positive impact of your project on the environment. Make sure that the benefits are ambitious but credible and that indicators are detailed,
  • outlining the potential of transfer or replication of your results to other regions, countries or economic sectors, even beyond the time boundaries of the project,
  • describing the persons involved in the project and showing the expertise of your partners,
  • planning your budget and business plan in advance to make sure they are coherent and credible,
  • getting inspiration and learning from others by exploring the existing LIFE programmes, among which is the Oreka Mendian project.

Please note that for most environment projects, the application deadline is June 2019. Most climate action projects proposals must be submitted by September 2019.

🧊 Glaciers matter for water, food and livelihoods in mountains and beyond. This is what we are highlighting this year on 11 December, International Mountain Day.Every year, this day provides an opportunity to emphasise the crucial importance of these areas in terms of natural resources, biodiversity, identity, cultural heritage, ways of life, and more resilient models. However, all of this is under threat from climate change, poorly targeted funding and negative perceptions of pastoral professions.Today, we are putting the spotlight on these endangered ice giants throughout our mountain ranges!Did you know that: 💧The Alps alone provide 40% of Europe's fresh water?💡Glacier retreat will reduce hydroelectric energy production by an average of 10% in the Alps and by up to 35% by 2070 compared to today?🌱68% of irrigated agricultural land in the plains depends directly on water runoff from the mountains? ⛰️By 2034 the Pyrenees will be ice-free?📢An appropriate governance of glacier is needed to counteract the rapid changes!🧊 By signing the manifesto for better European governance of glaciers alongside 80 other organisations, we are calling for immediate and targeted political responses to the economic, social and environmental impacts of climate change.Have a look 👉 www.euromontana.org/european-manifesto-for-a-governance-of-glaciers-and-connected-resources/ #IMD2025 #InternationalMountainDay #MountainsMatterMountain Partnership ...
