4th “Pitch your project”: mountain youth’s chance to boost sustainable development

The fourth edition of the “Pitch Your Project” competition is launched! Through the initiative, EUSALP is mobilising creative and committed young people for the sustainable development of the Alpine region.

All young people aged between 16 and 25 have the opportunity – individually or in groups – to set up a project aiming at strengthening the attractiveness, modernity and above all the sustainable development of the Alpine Region.

This year, ideas of projects can be submitted in the different 4 categories:

  • Living in the Alpine Region: How can we pass on traditional mountain knowledge to preserve it? How can we preserve and revive alpine traditions and languages? How can we develop citizens’ participation in the concerns of their Alpine territory?
  • Being active in the Alpine Region: How can we use mountain sports to promote well-being and health in the Alpine Region? How can we make the Alpine region more inclusive and attractive thanks to an ecologically sustainable 4-season tourism?
  • Innovating the Alpine Region: How can we make the Alpine Region more inclusive and attractive thanks to digital technology? How can we adapt the educational offer to the challenges of the Alpine Region and the needs of young people and the labor market? How can we create an innovative economic and environmental ecosystem that is attractive to young people?
  • Protecting the Alpine Region: How can we make water and waste management more sustainable? What are the opportunities of the circular economy to create new models of production and consumption? How can we preserve the unique biodiversity of the Alpine area?

The five best projects will be presented by candidates to an audience of international experts at EUSALP Annual Forum on 16th and 17th December 2021 in Nice. Experts will award the best three projects, which will receive 2000, 3000 and 5000 euros in support for their implementation.

How to apply?

All projects must be submitted by 31st October 2021. You can download the application form on the competition’s webpage.

If you have any questions on the competition or if would like to get tips for setting up your project, you can contact  Pauline Treissac. You can also get inspiration from the winners of previous editions of the competition.

Through “Pitch Your Project”, EUSALP is giving young mountain people a chance to contribute to the sustainable development of the Alps. Want to learn more on mountain youth’s voice? You can also read our recent interview with the recently created EUSALP Youth Council!

Today, Euromontana had the pleasure to take part in the journalist training course “Transizione ecologica nelle aree montane: biodiversità, cambiamento climatico e sviluppo sostenibile”, organised by Università della Montagna with the Ordine dei Giornalisti della Lombardia (the Lombardy Association of Journalists 📰)The course, bringing together 65+ participants, focused on how to better understand and report on ecological transition in mountain areas, from biodiversity and climate change to sustainable development ⛰️👉This matters because the way mountain areas are reported shapes the way they are understood and, ultimately, the way they are governed! We were pleased to join our member UNIMONT in this exchange. Prof. Anna Giorgi highlighted the need to change the way mountain areas are perceived, beyond fragility and marginality. Stefano Sala then showed how issues such as depopulation, winter tourism, climate change and public policy require a more nuanced reading of mountain realities 🔍 For Euromontana, Guillaume Corradino brought a European perspective to the discussion. He stressed that :1️⃣ mountains are not Europe’s margins, but diverse and complex living territories, and 2️⃣ stronger place-based policies and European cooperation are needed to move from recognition to implementation. Thanks again for the organization, the opportunity, and to all the participants 👏 ...
