On 21 May 2018, we celebrate the creation of a tool in favour of Europe’s biodiversity and natural richness. Indeed, the EU dedicated this day to the 26st anniversary of the Natura 2000 Network, a network that has greatly expanded in Europe, covering over 18% of the landmass of the EU, currently involving more than 27 000 sites of which 14% are located in mountain areas.
Our Oreka Mendian LIFE project’s scope of action fits well with the priorities of this network, i.e. contributing to the safeguarding of biodiversity and to the harmony between human and natural environments, by aiming to find a sustainable balance between preservation and socio-economic use of pastureland habitats in the Basque mountains.
We take advantage of this important event to share with you some key take-away messages from the LIFE Information and Networking Day that took place in Brussels on 4 May 2018.
