25 ways to improve living conditions in mountains!

How can mountain inhabitants tackle some of the most relevant challenges of their territories? Where can they find the means, ideas and financial support to combat climate change, depopulation and poor mobility? Montana174 publishes 25 illuminating examples of how different mountain regions has already done it, thanks to the support of the European Cohesion Policy.

Tackling key issues with 25 innovative solutions

Mountain regions faces many challenges, such as climate change, depopulation, pressures from tourism, poor mobility connections and many more. Yet, mountain regions are also promoters of solutions that can meet their specific needs in many innovative ways.

Montana174 identified 25 ways to improve the life of mountain inhabitants by addressing 5 key issues of mountain areas:

• Social and Digital Innovation
• Climate change mitigation and adaptation
• Tourism
• Youth & Employment
• Mobility

Situated all across Europe, these 25 solutions have been financed by the European Cohesion Policy over the period 2014-2020. The Cohesion Policy pays a “particular attention to mountain regions” (Article 174 of the European Treaty) and hence, support initiatives and projects tailored to these territories.

What is Montana174?

Montana174 is a 1-year communication campaign funded by the European Commission – DG REGIO and coordinated by Euromontana. This campaign aims to raise awareness and increase knowledge on how the Cohesion Policy impact the daily life of mountain citizens.
